Police Accredited TRaining OnLine
The League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT), Minnesota Counties Intergovernmental Trust (MCIT), Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association (MCPA) and Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association (MSA) have partnered with Smart Horizons to bring you Police Accredited TRaining OnLine (PATROL).
PATROL is a powerful learning tool for Minnesota law enforcement agencies. Through PATROL, agencies have access to extensive web-based courses on current legal issues, and research on important developments impacting Minnesota law enforcement. PATROL can be accessed at any time from any internet connect.
Each month a new 60 minute continuing education course is available to officers and deputies. Upon successful completion, one POST credit is earned toward continuing education credits. In addition, PATROL delivers courses on Use of Force and Deadly Force to help law enforcement agencies meet POST mandates, and courses on AWAIR and Employee Right-to-Know, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazmat, Hearing Conservation, and Respiratory Protection to help agencies meet OSHA standards. All courses combined, peace officers can earn up to 21 POST credits each year.
To produce PATROL courses, LMCIT gathers materials and expertise from a number of sources, including current case law, police liability experts, insurance defense counsel, and law enforcement agencies.
PATROL is only available to Minnesota law enforcement agencies and inactive peace officers. In order for active officers to participate in PATROL, the chief law enforcement officer must first sign the PATROL subscription agreement. It is left to the chief law enforcement officer to decide which officers have access to PATROL. Inactive officers can enroll on their own. Please see the Enrollment tab at the top of this page for more information.
LMCIT and MCIT member agencies pay only $85 per officer per year. Non-member agencies and inactive officers pay $110 per officer per year. Subscription fees are prorated from the date of enrollment.
